The future for blockchain and risk management in the context of data protection remains an uncertain future, at least in the short term. The GDPR was drafted with seemingly only centralised legacy systems in mind, containing limited authoritative guidance as to how to handle the processing of personal data within a blockchain ecosystem in a legally compliant manner.

It is hoped that this prevailing uncertainty is adequately addressed by the relevant authorities in the shortest possible future and in the meantime, bridging solutions should be carefully studied at the design stage of any blockchain use case.
