Paul Caruana Turner
Paul started his career at a boutique law firm, specialising in gaming and corporate law while pursuing his degree. His role involved extensive research for senior staff on new legislation and its potential impact on clients.
After graduating with a law degree from the University of Malta, Paul joined Grant Thornton, as the Assistant Manager of the Regulatory, Corporate, and Financial Services Team where he led the department responsible for dealing with a large and varied portfolio of Maltese and overseas clients. He has a diverse range of experience having collaborated with both start-ups and more established companies. Notably he’s worked with gaming companies, payment service providers, investment funds, prospective VFA issuers & service providers, trusts, foundations, among others.
Paul has a master’s in financial services, successfully completing his thesis on “The Regulation of Virtual Financial Assets as a Means of Payment under Maltese Law.” After his time at Grant Thornton, Paul started working as an in-house consultant in the gaming industry. Throughout his career, he has assisted gaming companies with regulatory compliance, license applications, ongoing license management, commercial negotiations, M&A, ADR, data protection, RG, corporate governance and corporate structuring.
Paul holds a Personal Management License from the UK Gambling Commission and is an approved Key Function Holder by the MGA. His expertise spans both B2C and B2B gambling businesses across various jurisdictions, including the Alderney, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Isle of Man, Italy, Netherlands, Ontario, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, UK & the US (incl. Arizona, Colorado, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania).
