How We Turn MGA Key Function Training into Real Performance
Key Function training is mandatory under the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA). But at iGaming Academy, “mandatory” is only our starting point – not the finish line. We design each Key Function pathway to meet compliance and move the needle on day-to-day performance.
We start with the rulebook, then map the training around real-life action.
Our team translates regulatory requirements into clear, practical competencies. For each Key Function, we ask: What must this person know? What must they be able to do on the job? We then create a simple competency map that links every learning outcome to a task, control, or decision the role makes in real life. This keeps the course tight, relevant, and audit-ready.
Case studies that feel like your business.
We use scenarios inspired by real operational challenges. Learners don’t just read the rule; they run the play. For example, a Responsible Gaming case may ask learners to triage a player pattern, choose an action, write the customer note, and prepare the internal handover. This builds confidence and judgment where it matters most.
Exercises that create energy, not yawns.
Our sessions blend short expert inputs with hands-on tasks:
- Decision drills with time limits (to mirror production pressure)
- Opposing team debates to explore different outcomes
- Risk mapping on real process flows
- Micro-writing tasks: SAR outlines, incident summaries, RG scripts
These activities are simple to run, but powerful for learning. People leave with tools they can use the next morning.
Discussions that sharpen judgment.
Key Function holders often decide at speed. Our guided discussions bring out different viewpoints, test trade-offs, and reveal knock-on effects – building the judgement regulators expect and leaders rely on.
We also take this philosophy beyond the classroom through our CEO Workshops. In our most recent session, senior leaders came together to share insights, challenges, and strategies around regulatory compliance and operational excellence. These workshops give decision-makers a forum to test ideas, exchange best practices, and align business performance with regulatory expectations. You can read about the latest workshop here. Our next CEO Workshop is coming soon – if you’re a senior leader who wants to stay ahead of regulatory change and sharpen your organisation’s performance, this is the room you’ll want to be in.
Evidence a regulator, board, and QA team will accept.
Compliance still matters. Every course includes a certificate confirming the Key Function holder’s attendance and active participation. It provides clear, audit-ready evidence and helps lift quality across the team.
The result: stronger people, safer operations.
When training is built on real tasks, performance improves. Teams make better calls, document better, escalate earlier, and communicate with more clarity. Compliance boxes still get ticked – but they are now the by-product of competence, not the goal.
If you want Key Function training that meets the MGA requirements and lifts your business, this is how we build our courses – mandatory to mastery, end to end.
